We discuss your goals, what sort of music you like and if you are a beginner or re-starter.
We will start off sorting out where to place your camera whichever device you use, or if you use an onboard or separate camera. A laptop has the better sound quality and image. Placing it so I can see the full piano keyboard and you seated. A side angle usually works best. Students use laptops, mobile phones, ipads or pc’s.
Then we chat about practicalities; what days are best for your lesson; how you might fit practicing into your life. I have many tips to get all this working smoothly. See Homepage for info about what i teach and term timetables etc.
Then we play. If you are a complete beginner we usually end up being able to play something simple immediately. We look at notes and hand shapes and much more.
If you have played before, I listen to anything – a piece or just some scales. Or it doesn’t matter if you have nothing or if you are incredibly rusty at playing! I will quickly assess what you will need to develop during the free music lesson. We will work on these in the forthcoming lessons.
It is good to talk through things before deciding to start piano lessons. It makes everything run more smoothly. There’s always much to say and it’s great fun meeting new potential students!
I give advice about where to buy acoustic or digital piano’s too – for every budget. I have both a digital and acoustic Kawai piano, so know their quality – and sometimes recommend the Kawai website
